The big repeatable pattern and major scale pattern no. 5

Manfred

Question

Sorry, but I can’t understand why pattern 5 starts with 3 big stretches.
The big repeating pattern applied (with the invisible 7th string) should start with 2 big stretches, because the 3rd big stretch lies on the invisible 7th string. Could anybody please help me understanding?

@Manfred All 7 scale patterns are different. They also are for different scales. That is why the 3 big stretches. Keep going memorize the scale pattern and do the exercises that follow in the module you are in. When you are comfortable with them, I think you move onto the next module. Remember the 7 notes and 7 feelings? These scale patterns help you, so you are not always stuck playing in the same major pattern. You will also find it easier finding your way up and down the neck.

Thank you Fred!

So my mistake in understanding was that every pattern is build by rotating the big repeatable pattern.

(What fits for pattern 1 to 4)

Meant is only, that you could memorize every pattern with form and order of the big repeatable pattern?

(I‘m not a native speaker, so I got it wrong)

A good question. I've just seen Fred's response. I just keep the pattern sheet handy, use it as a picture on my wall.

If your trying pattern 5 it's Mixolydien one of the modes. I'jj attach the sheet in case you hav't copied it yet, along with the modes sheet you may find helpful.  Me  I just memorized the big repeating pattern. The 3 big stretches followed by 2 middle finger & 2 ring finger patterns

Hope this helps too. Alan
