Fred Soukup
Hi, I am a veteran with PTSD. and for those of you who don't know it, music can help with some of the issues that goes along with it. Yesterday. I had a triggering event and started to go into a flashback. I happened to be in my office and saw my guitar and started working on the major scales. Within a minute I was grounded again. No flashback!! Music also helps with anger issues and depression as well as anxiety. I have tried other courses and the ones offered here have helped me more than all the other ones combined. Mainly because they help you stay focused, and when you finish a course you geta sense of accomplishment because you understand and play better. Especially if you follow the course instructions. This all may sound trivial and silly to some of you but not having to go through a flashback or an anxiety attacks, is really great. 2
Yves Cadieux
Hi Mr. Soukup! I read your testimony with great interest and let me tell you that this story is not silly at all! I only disagree with the title you chose....this victory is anything but "minor", it is GREAT! Music is magic and making some is immensely rewarding! Keep playing and enjoying guitar! Fred Soukup
Thank you YC. Was a bit hesitant to share, because I wasn't looking for sympathy. Just trying to let everyone know what music especially these courses have honestly done for me. Thank you for seeing it for what it was. Oh and you can call me Fred. Austin Carter
@Fred Soukup Now THAT is a Breakthrough! Thanks so much for sharing. Music is so powerful, it's incredible when you sit and think of all it's applications. I'm happy to see you've found one here and shared it with us, so perhaps it can help others in similar situations. What a powerful moment. Scotty77
So glad you shared that with us Fred. Glad that music was able to get you over that hump and help you out. So many people think that PTSD is nothing. A number of years ago, I was on a "recovery" with my local fire department as a volunteer. Didn't realize that was the call when I went out (not a fire fighter, but a volunteer with the dept.) That call took me a long time to get over it. Made the mistake of not talking with anyone about it either... So, hats off to you for sharing and Thank you for your service.
Fred Soukup
@Austin Music really helps me and other veterans with their PTSD. The VA here in Florida had a program called "Guitars4Vets", which gave 10 free lessons to veterans and a free guitar after completion. that program stopped after the virus outbreak. It actually helped me relearn how to play after a stroke. I also tried doing you tube and other self -help guitar courses when I found BTG on Face Book. Thought I would give it a try, and nothing has helped me more than the courses here. Now I am a Life member and have recommended that they send the veterans that are on the waiting list to join BTG. I connected or tried to connect the VA rep with Daisy.
Austin Carter
@Fred Soukup I heard about that. Thank you for making the connection. And for referring people. I was blown away by the VA doing that, when I heard the story. Such a great idea for them and it's something that's opened our eyes to how we can help impact more people like yourself.
