Marian Drake
My Musical Journey: I could sing Mozart and Bach before I could walk. I begged my parents for a piano. They finally got me one when I was eight years old. Unfortunately for nine years I took piano lessons from a teacher who ruined my technique. When I was 28 I essentially started over with a great teacher, the late Charles Fulkerson at Humboldt State College (now University) in California. He helped me get splendid technique, and I could play difficult classical music, but I only practiced about an hour at a time, so I never reached my goal. Taht was playing harpsichord and figured bass, which is following a bassline behind a flutist or violinist. I did that later on, but by the time I was in my 50s, the classical players who I played with didn't have patience with me, so I gave that up. I played guitar and sang some off and on for years. I took up mandolin on my own, and jammed a lot of Old TIme Music. I got serious about the guitar and singing about 4 years ago or less. I have a YouTube channel, which is https://www.youtube.com/@mariandrake/videos I really love the Breakthrough Guitar course and have already learned a ton in about the first week. It's going to take a lot of time to get the technique in the scale pattern and the flexibility pattern. I don't know how to move forward past those.
