Welcome to the Speed and Improvisation Mini-Masterclass!

You are now in a group of guitar players who love blues, and are serious about making MASSIVE progress FAST!

In this post, we're going to go over how everything is going to work. And then, you will introduce yourself to the rest of the group!

The Mini-Masterclass is from Monday 1/10 until Wednesday 1/12.  Each day you'll find the workshop lesson in the "Daily Exercise" section.

First, let's cover how to access your lessons and resources:

  1. Within your "Speed and Improvisation Mini-Masterclass" group, you'll see 3 sections: General Chat, Daily Exercises, & a Bonus Section.
  2. The General Chat is for talking all things guitar, asking questions, and connecting with your fellow guitarists.
  3. The Daily Exercises section is where all 3 of the Daily Exercises will be posted. Here is where you can ask questions and talk about the exercises themselves - and even post your own progress for feedback!
  4. The Bonus section is where you can find an exclusive "advanced licks" lesson & special backing track to accompany it!
  5. Lastly, after your Mini-Masterclass starts, lessons & exercises will be uploaded. That way, you can review as much as you want, and go at your own pace.

Now that you know how the community works, go ahead and INTRODUCE YOURSELF IN A REPLY BELOW!

You can tell us about your journey so far, what you're looking to accomplish, your favorite guitars and artists, or anything else you want to share!

I love Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton's blues and wish I had that kind of skill.

Hi!

I am in for sure! I am with BTG since May 2021 and have gone from not knowing what to do on the fretboard when soloing to......knowing where to go and what to do....now, knowing is not doing so I play along with backing tracks and try to improve the way I sound. I still have got a long way to go, so I say YES to this mini masterclass and any other initiative that can help progress.

Looking forward to those 3 days!

It's great to be in Breakthrough Guitar and this Mini-Masterclass.  I learn new things nearly every day.  My first guitar lessons were in 1965 and 1966.  I learned most of the basic chords in all the keys and played in garage bands and a classic rock band through 1973.  It was difficult to learn lead guitar in those days without the internet.  I learned in a primitive fashion picking licks off records, and trading licks with friends and bandmates.  I later studied the pentatonic and minor scales needed to play classic rock and blues.

I would like to learn the major scale inside and out and be able to play fast and flashy country guitar, bluegrass/newgrass flatpicking, and some traditional jazz chords and soloing.  Then, my goal would be to play a fusion of all those styles and learn basic songwriting skills.  Since I am 68 years and retired, I now have more time for guitar, but will primarily play with friends for fun as I do not have the physical health and energy to perform live and on a rigid schedule.  I may attempt to write a few songs and shop those around some day - this would be my ultimate goal.

I totally need all the help I can get so thanks for the mini course. I need to increase my speed, accuracy and fluidity. I couldn't find the daily exercises page though. My browser seems to stop at general chat. Does anyone know how to access the exercises?

Here you are:

Hope that helps!

Hello everyone, my name is Clarence Silkwood and I live just outside St.Louis Missouri.
I’ve been playing guitar since I was 17 years old, I’m now 76

i used to jam with my brother and a few friends from time to time and at one time had a repertoire of about 100 songs that we learned from memory.
Then there was about a 20 year period in my life where I hardly picked up my guitar. I somehow lost interest after my younger brother passed away and I was left with no singer. I can carry a tune, sorta,, but I have a very limited range. So I got bored and just put my guitar down and forgot about it.
Then 9 years ago I was visiting my sister in Canada and some of her friends that play music invited us over for dinner and to play some music. They had an extra guitar as well as an electric bass which I also played.
I thoroughly enjoyed that evening and realized how much I missed playing.
so when I got back home I began playing again. But after a while I began to get bored again. Then I saw on line an ad for Jonathan’s Breakthrough guitar, after reading about it and with nothing to lose, I decided to sign up and try it out.
I was very happy with the results I achieved in a relatively short period of time.
I particularly liked the advancement I made with the pentatonic scales. I practice almost everyday simply because I enjoy playing along with songs I recorded on my looper.

Now I would like to learn how to play the melodies on the fly to some of my favorite songs. My kind of music is old time Rock & Roll, Country Rock and Rhythm and Blues.
I could spend time searching for the notes and memorizing them but at 76 time is too short.
My fingers aren’t as limber as they once were and my hands not as fast but hopefully I’ll get through the course and come out a better guitar player at the end.
Thanks for reading

Clarence
