Which part of the finger do I fret with?

Question

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question: when fretting a note, what part of the fingertip do I use? Which part will result in a clean sound without any buzzing and any muting of other strings? I have a tendency of muting the D string while playing the G chord.

Hi Nick. In attemting to answer your first question, the theory ive read says, arch your fingers and play with your finger tips. But as you know there's really no rules thinking of people who play with fingers in tubes and slide.  So maybe try all sorts till somethi g you find works nest 4 you.
