Old enough to know better, daft enough to try.

Hi All,

Well, I’m in my sixties now so probably this is what will be my last chance to actually master at least some of this thing before my hands stiffen up. Sadly laid off from work because of Covid so got plenty time on my hands to get started until something new comes up. Dream would be ability to play lead guitar but think that one is more a forlorn hope than a dream. Hitting decent rhythm guitar and being able to join in on a tune would be my initial hopes. Years of hard manual labour probably no help to the dexterity of my fingers so strumming along probably as good as it gets.

Looking forwards to some help, advice and banter.

Hi Rab!

Cannot agree more about Unlimited Dexterity, it is simple but repeating those exercises almost daily for a few months will make magic on your fretting hand. It will make your journey through Ultimate Guitar Grid Mastery a lot more enjoyable and efficient.

It did it for me at least!

Enjoy playing! And by the way welcome to the Forum!

Hey Rab,

Good to see another over 60 guitar enthusiast like myself!

I just started with the $27 dollar price really just to see if this is legit and for me.  Looks pretty good so far and I am impressed with the

good marks it gets online.  I can see where the improvement will come if you practice.....a lot....and it should take some time, but hey, I'm here!

I will be spending some time with the dexterity class until I am pretty good.  But I will now need to sign on to a new course and am thinking of just

biting the bullet, paying the $$$ and sign on for lifetime subscription.

Are you, or anyone else, glad you chose this route and what suggestion do you have to follow a logical order of learning?

My Best,

Traser

Hi Traser!

I started exactly like you last May (2021), with the 27$ course but rapidly went to a one year subscription and never regreted it. If I remember well you can find all the exercises of the Unlimited Dexterity course in one of the Bonus sections of the 27$ Guitar Grid 101 course. I used these exercises in parallel with the lessons of Ultimate Guitar Grid Mastery....like 30 minutes of finger exercises and then a lesson and so on.

I must admit that I never had any regrets towards my subscription and wether you go for a year or lifetime is up to you, but I think it is a good move.

As far as the order in which to follow the courses, well Ultimate Guitar Grid Mastery and Pentatonic Fluency are great tools for playing lead over any backing track. I also liked Phrasing and Greatest Musical ideas.

Probably other members would have different suggestions so read all of them and choose your own path.

Have fun and enjoy playing!

Well now I really feel at home a whole bunch of us over 60. Unlimited Dexterity still helps me as well as The Ultimate Guitar Grid Mastery course. I am a lifetime member, and I can tell you it is well worth it. I enjoy being able to go back and going through the courses over again at my own pace and I can go as slow or fast as I am comfortable with. Plus, with the lifetime membership you save money because all the courses are available to you and any future ones as well.

Hi Rab, I’ve be practicing about maybe 2-3 weeks now, the scale exercises have helped with stretching my fingers to cover at least 5 frets. So far so good. I tried doing some pull offs or legatos and discovered resting the pulled off  finger on the next string over instead of lifting the finger completely of the fretboard.  It’s a challenge but it results in economy of motion that may help with a smoother transition to the next set of notes.

Hi folks old and new, for me the ultimate dexterity module gives you many options to practice. i decided to develop my own regular practice routine, trills, hammer ons spider walks, playing thro' pentatonics. i do daily before a specific topic which varies day to day. After about 16 months doing BTG i'd like to stretch better between middle & ring fingers but cant, maybe just me. But the nice thing about learning guitar is ther's so many other different ways of achieving the skills needed. You just have stick with it & do what's comfortable to achieve and right for you.

Sticking with it is the only way to get better! especially following the instructions in the modules.
