My Experience with Breakthrough Guitar!!

Recommended Posts

So I have been a Lifetime member of Breakthrough Guitar for some time now. It is Amazing. Especially since I know I Never have to pay for it again...lol Yes - I'm cheap 😁

Breakthrough Guitar is my GO - TO source of training, although I do browse through You Tube videos from time to time.

I found that Jonathans teachings can easily be applied to the BASS Guitar. I bought a low end Epiphone BASE - Viola - looks like the BASS that Paul McCartney played with the Beatles, minus the finish, and I made a one time purchase of an online  BASS Lesson system as well. I am using both to help me along with my BASS skills. I attached a pic of the BASS's.

There is also a low end Ibanez in the pic                            .48559475_2-BASSES.thumb.jpg.42b80cadc9b2dfe4de5063a5e64837af.jpg

I think, the Breakthrough Guitar courses and Jonathan Boyd have been my Life Saver. I have progressed so far since becoming a member with Breakthrough Guitar I just can't describe it. AND - I have heard many comments from many other folks other than myself, regarding my progress. I attribute 90% of it to @Jonathan - and I can't thank him enough.

SO, on that note - I would be curious to hear how other folks have applied and enjoyed BTG?

Hi Glen

Nice bass! I like to dabble in the low end as well, current weapons are a Fender Made in Japan 60s re-issue Jazz Bass and a Spector Euro LT

It's interesting you mention that you are a lifetime member. I thought I'd bought most of the Breakthrough catalogue when I signed up but I got an email from Jonathon today offering lifetime access for just under 300 dollars. I'm all; for saving money as well but I'm wondering if lifetime access would give me immediate access to any courses I don't have  (apart from courses to be released in the future of course). It's difficult to know because there doesn't seem to be a shop where all the courses are offered for sale individually. These are the courses I currently have - does anything notable leap out to you as missing that you get with full lifetime access?

Guitar Grid 101

Guitar Grid Formula

Ultimate Guitar Grid Mastery

Lead Guitar Lightbulb Moment

Guitar Players Road Map

Irresistible Phrasing 101

Unlimited Dexterity

How to Instantly Know the Right Chords

Pentatonic Fluency

How to Play Anything by Ear

Bulletproof Rhythm 101

The Greatest Musical Ideas

Total Modal Mastery

No Nonsense Notes

Effortless Bar Chords

Perfect Practice Principles

Perfect Fretboard Vision

How to Play Any Chord Anywhere

Strangely two modules appear on my course page that are locked - How  to Get Unstuck and Live Events

many thanks

Hey pal,

I am so sorry for this late reply. I have been having some major internet issues. First of all, those 2 modules that you are referring to are not a part of the Guitar Freedom Formula. 1. The "How To Get Unstuck" is actually an e-book that Jonathan wrote, and he sells it. Should you ever purchase the e-book, this will also become available to you.

2. Live Events, are exactly as they sound. Live Workshops, Lessons etc. These are events that are created from time to time, and Live Access to the event is sold on a first come first served basis. There are usually only a limited number of seats. These Events are recorded for the attendees, and they go on sale after the event is completed and the recording is edited.

As for the Lifetime membership, the content is the same for all the memberships. The difference being the price and the duration. The lifetime membership gives you access to everything you have now, PLUS, any new courses Jonathan may add in the future. With the Lifetime Membership it is a one time payment and done! No recurring billing EVER!!

I hope this helps

PS - I wanted a Fender Jazz BASS so bad, BUT, I am just learning and figured I couldn't justify the price tag lol. Both those BASSES on my wall cost way less than the Fender Jazz I was looking AT...

Edited: Chris, I read some of your posts and see you picked up on the unconventional way BTG approaches guitar. This is mostly for others who haven't.

There's a course called Ultimate Guitar Gear and Recording, Master Class on my Backstage. Im a Lifetime member and dont have access to it. FIrst time Ive heard about Live Events.

But heres the thing. Ive been with BTG as a lifetime member since Nov '20. Only 2 courses have been added to the original line up.

It would be something of a revelation to me that anyone advancing at a normal rate would find enough material on BTG that would meet their needs after a year.

Im a tell it like it is guy. I found value in pentatonic and Major scales, of course. And that's the basis of BTG's "new" concept. However, if you take in the industry writ large, and spend enough time on approaches taken you'll probably find like me that the Major scale as Jonathan teaches it is archaic. The method teaches a BIg stretch. In a way it is simpler to learn. But as one studies more you'll understand that approach extracts a price in efficiency and speed. The rest of the world uses another pattern because of the obvious utility. Take a look at Major scale patterns 1-7 on Google.

So, in other words, since you have been a member of BTG you have mastered everything that has been taught. You are so good that you need not go back over any of the courses because you cannot learn anything you might have missed. So, you are saying that you are a master guitar player and have no more need of instruction. Must be nice. Maybe you should book a call and see if you can become a teacher. Or are you one of those people who just want to tear everything down because you can't come up with something better yourself?

So, in other words,

Not going to mince words. What I said is true for me. We learn from one another. BTG is a finite path to learning guitar. Jonathan said so himself. He came to his method after exploring others for years. He played semi professionally and taught others before he "discovered" this method. It wasn't even a discovery in terms of being first but personal discovery for himself. Ive seen others do it such as Jeff Sheetz, Street Theory for Guitar on TrueFire. Its actually what I had been lacking that has made the most difference for me.

His method, regarding the Major patterns, Ive found, is important in order to discover the what intervals are such as root, major 2nd and 3rd, Perfect 4th and 5th and major 6th and 7th on so on for the minor and pentatonic scales. However as a person advances they'll find out to their joy and bewilderment (if they didn't know previously) those patterns can be shrunk to 4 fret reaches instead of 5.

What have you added here?

What I have added is to challenge you to book a call to see if you qualify to become a teacher. That way instead of whining you could be more productive and share your knowledge with people so they could benefit. Again, if you have progressed way beyond what is taught why not become part of the BTG team? Then you could help others learn what you know and make money at the same time. Or are you the type of person who just prefers to tear things down instead of helping to improve them?

At least what I have added is to try to motivate you in a positive direction.

Ha! No you haven't. Not interested anyway, your motivation notwithstanding. Interesting. I point out my learning experience to benefit people and you choose to call it whining. We see the world differently. You think I need money. I don't. You think I need to help people. I don't. I choose to share my experience. You don't appreciate it. Que sara. Can't please everyone. BTG isn't the be all end all and according to Jonathan it came late to him after playing well for years.

What I will say for the reader is if you (the reader) have a hard time stretching to make the big stretch understand those positions/voicings/patterns/scales can be played in another way on the fret board that varies by a single fret and you will be able to reach them more easily as I have. And you'll still start on the key note. Yes the pinky might go by the wayside but what will have been gained perhaps is a versatile way to play what you want though more efficiently. Why, because anytime you have to stretch out of a comfort zone on the fret board you either have to have speed or hand size to compensate. And further what you'll notice is the majority of the world uses these non BTG patterns.

I add this because many times I've heard from folks who cant do the big stretch. The answer was keep playing. Ha!

Sir Soukup, are you a Customer Engineer with BTG?
